Timing Belt Kits
The timing belt, or cambelt, connects the crankshaft to the camshaft to control the engine’s valves and ensure synchronised rotation.
Timing belt kits include tensioners, idlers, dampers, gasket pipes and a water pump, as well as the timing belt. Some cars have timing chains instead of timing belts.
How do I know that my timing belt needs to be replaced?
- Your engine is noisy.
- There are oil traces on the timing belt.
- Your water pump, crankshaft or camshaft is leaking.
Why does my timing belt need to be replaced?
- It’s mechanically damaged.
- It lacks tension.
- Its teeth are damaged.
- It has been incorrectly installed.
- Your vehicle is frequently driven in a sporty style.
- Your gears are insufficiently lubricated.
How do I repair my timing belt?
Timing belts can’t be repaired, but can easily be replaced by a mechanical expert. You should replace your timing belt every 60,000 – 100,000 miles, or every 5 years.
It’s vital that your timing belt is replaced before it snaps, as a sudden breakage can cause serious damage to your engine that may be unfixable.
You can identify the correct engine timing belt parts for your vehicle using our car part finder.
